1. Why do some successful companies fail in Japan?

They did not know how to hire the right person. While many other factors can contribute to failure in Japan, the importance of having the right leaders in this society cannot be overstated. Because of the enormous cultural differences between Occidental and Japanese society, westerners often have difficulty in discerning a Japanese executive's most important attributes for success. It is too easy to focus on their English language skills or their social skills in the interview, overlooking those uniquely Japanese attributes which will make the real difference. Success doesn't come from just analyzing their "strengths" and "weaknesses." The key is to understand how well the executive's core personality will fit into the style of the company's Japanese division.

2. How can you help us?

By locating and persuading the perfect Japanese executive for your corporation to consider your offer, one whose skills and core personality are right for your company. Helping you determine the precise personal and professional characteristics of that Japanese is our first responsibility. Then we create and carry out a careful search for executives with the characteristics you need. The best executives are often not even thinking of leaving their present company until we approach them. When we find the best candidates for your needs, we not only present them to you, but we also counsel with you about the pros and cons of each candidate, why they have the best chance of achieving your goals, and their ability to move seamlessly between the Occidental and Japanese worlds. We help you select the right candidate, and avoid the wrong candidates. Finally, we work with you in the negotiation stage, providing the intimate knowledge of the culture, the economy, and the executive to help you strike the best deal. Even more importantly, we help you avoid losing the candidate you need through some careless or unknowing slip.

3. Who are your clients?

A great deal of our work is confidential or highly sensitive. Therefore, we do not publish the names of companies we represent. We are careful in representing competitors or too many companies in the same industry. Our broad and diverse client base precludes the conflict of interest of representing competitive companies within the same industry and enables us to conduct a thorough search assignment for every client, every time.

7. How long should the search process take for a senior-level position and what can clients do to make that process as effective and efficient as possible?

The search for a senior-level executive: a CEO, COO, CFO, or Board Director, for example, may require extensive interviewing, referencing and negotiation. Every client and every assignment are unique. Usually, a three months is required to identify and recruit the best qualified candidate, but there have been cases where an accelerated search has been completed in a matter of days.
